Karolina Jabłońska
born 1991
Karolina Jabłońska is the winner of the second prize at the 2017 Bielska Jesień Painting Biennial. She creates surrealistic, figurative oil paintings whose tightly arranged frames become a space for the projection of diverse visions of desire, freedom, and disobedience. The motifs of exaggerated carnality and tension between eroticism and violence are constantly repeated. The simplified archetypes of characters are flat and painted in close-up, dragging the viewer into the scenes that play out on canvas. Jabłońska contrasts intense colour combinations and soft shapes with the themes of her paintings, in which pleasure and violence belong to the sphere of carefree excess.
